4th of July!

As usual, we were on Nantucket for the 4th.  My boys have never spent a 4th anywhere else!  I brought some of my cookie cutters with me this year and was able to make some cookies for our 4th of July BBQ.  Not having my own mixer was a bummer though.  I am really used to it :)  I had to make the dough using a hand mixer.  NOT fun at all!

Lacrosse Party Cookies

I can NOT believe I never posted a picture of some lacrosse cookies I did for a friends party!  I think these are the best cookies I have done yet (if I do say so myself!)  At first they were taking a really long time, but after doing a few, the design moved along a lot faster!

A friend was supposed to photograph them for me, but between our two schedules it just didn't work out.  Oh well.  Hopefully she will be able to take some pictures for me of the next cookies. :)

Memorial Day Pool Party

We don't have any travel plans for this weekend.  I am actually looking forward to being home :)  We have been invited to a friend's for a cookout/pool party so of course some cookies were in order!
It was so perfect that Bella Michelle had recommended beach ball cookies because they worked out perfectly for the pool party theme and I had just baked some round cookies :)
Here they are:

I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend and here's to the start of a fabulous summer!

Football party

Back in November we hosted the end of season football party for my older son J. (My front yard is still recovering from eighteen 11 and 12 year old boys running around on it!!)  It was a great time for the boys and I had fun making cookies for the occasion!

I think my circle cutters are going to come in handy ;)  It was fun to come up with the design and then figure out how to execute it so it followed my vision.

I currently have some dough chilling in the fridge.  What design should I do next?  Summer theme?  Maybe some flags for Memorial Day?  I will let you know what I decide!

Baby Shower!

My youngest son's teacher had a baby this fall and we held a surprise shower for her with her class.  Each child donated $5.00 and we pooled the money together to buy favorite children's books.  I volunteered to make some cookies (of course!)
we didn't know if she was having a boy or girl, so I made pink and blue bows on the bears.

The kids also wrote down words of advice for the mom to be, and we hung them with clothes pins in the classroom as decoration.  Some great advice was given!!  8 and 9 year olds are very wise when it comes to new babies ;)

Sock Monkey Baby Shower

A couple of weeks ago a friend and I hosted a baby shower for a good friend expecting her first child.  A boy!  We chose a sock monkey theme with red an teal colors.
We served tea sandwiches, asparagus and mushroom tartlets, proscuitto wrapped cantaloupe, fruit cups, cake, raspberry white chocolate chip mini scones and macarons.
my friend over at Pickwick Baking made the scones and macarons.  YUM!

My friend's sister made the cake.  Isn't it great?
I had the diaper cake made by a great place on etsy (here)
and the sock monkeys came from Amazon.  We just added the teal ribbon collars :)

My friend found this little notebook (for baby advice) in the $1 bin at Michaels.  We just added the monkey from the invitations (found here).

These are the cookies I made as favors.

And here the cookies are all packaged up. :)

Welcome!

Welcome to my new blog, Confections of a Preppy :)  I am so excited to finally have a name for my (potential) new business.  Many thanks to my dear friend K for coming up with the absolutely perfect name ;)

I just finished an order for party favors for a little boy's 4th birthday.  His mom wanted a nautical theme (appropriate, since we live on the coast!)

I don't have a sailboat cookie cutter (yet) so I made do with a circle.
(Now I just need to learn how to take pictures without my shadow...)

One of each design was packaged up together, and tied off with a blue ribbon.
It was so much fun to do these :)
